Calvary in Brief

Founded in 1950, Calvary is a compassionate, welcoming, Jesus-centered church with a heart for meeting the needs of the less fortunate, both in our community and around the world. We were a “doing” church from the beginning (our early members constructed the first building with bricks hauled from the railhead). Today, we are a 200-member congregation known in our local community for our diversity and our ministry to vulnerable populations.

We worship together at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, gather in many different ways during the week, and seek to put love in action and serve as the hands and feet of Christ.

We are Diverse in Culture, United in Christ, Serving in Love

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and share the gospel by serving in love and building community.

Our vision is that all would “Come, Grow, Go and Serve”

Our core values are: Christ in our hearts, love in our behavior, quality in our worship, integrity in our ministry, diligence in our outreach, and accountability in our relationships

At Calvary, we pride ourselves on a few key qualities that make us a unique congregation:

    • We welcome and encourage diversity within our congregation. We have people of many ethnicities, ages, socioeconomic status, and viewpoints.
    • Despite our smaller size, we are consistently among the top 20 churches in mission giving in the entire American Baptist Churches USA denomination.
    • We gladly collaborate with other faith communities and nonprofit organizations
    • We have a reputation for being involved in the local community and serving vulnerable populations.
    • We have historically been “ahead of the curve;” for example, being the first racially integrated church in the area.
